Managing Party Wall Agreement

Whether you’re extending or converting, any work carried out on a shared wall needs the consent and approval of both parties with a party wall agreement

To keep things simple, we start by encouraging you to share your plans with your neighbour as early as possible, easing any concerns they might have. We’ll then provide you with template forms, which you and your neighbour will sign to say you have come to an agreement. Don’t fear the worst, we’ve known plenty of neighbours to consent very quickly and in some instances even bring forward their own plans to minimise disruption and use the same conversion architect.

Loft or basement conversions more commonly need a party wall agreement, whereas the majority of extensions don’t.

Your neighbour can’t stop you from continuing your project, but they can request the opinion of a party wall surveyor. This can slow your project down or increase costs, but if your neighbour does wish to follow that route, don’t worry. As with every aspect of your project, we’ll work closely with the surveyor to make sure you receive the best possible outcome.
